Hi There,
I'm Stacey

The person often found behind the lens more than in front of it (something I’m working on) and the face behind Stacey Downer Photography.
My love for art started at a very young age. While colouring in one day, I remember asking "can you have a job colouring in?" It was then that I knew I wanted to be an ARTIST.
My first camera was a bright red Coca-Cola branded Point-and-Shoot, my first photo? A mother duck swimming with her ducklings at Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch. After that - there was no stopping me! I would dress up my youngest sister and do mini fashion shoots, I'd take photos of pets and people and places - it would cost a fortune to develop them all!

I went on to study art & photography at High School. I loved creating images from start to finish and the darkroom was one of my favourite places.
After leaving school, I was rarely ever seen without my Minolta SLR camera close by. Two years later I was asked to photograph a wedding in Queenstown, I was so nervous and I didn't have a clue what I was doing but it was a great learning experience and it made me realise that being a photographer is what I wanted to be. At the time I was pregnant with Andre, so I decided to focus my attention on watching him grow. When he was approaching school age, I purchased my first DSLR (Canon 1100D) and I started practicing on anyone I could find.
Fast forward to 2013 - I relocated from Dunedin to Cromwell and after many months of learning, heaps of practice and 2 camera upgrades I started my business as Stacey Downer Photography. I love the definite seasons and beautiful scenery that Central Otago has to offer. I am so lucky to be living in this special little piece of New Zealand, capturing precious moments and creating memories for families in Central Otago and beyond.
